2006 Week 7 Report
|
The Lips have once again bested their Hair Conference
rivals in interleague play. However, this week they only managed to take
3 of the 5 games. For the season, the Lips have won 10 of the 15 cross-divisional
games. This dominance is reflected in the standings as four Lip Conference
teams have winning records as compared to just two teams from the Hair
Conference. If the season ended today, the Lips would have 4 teams qualified
for the playoffs and the Hairs would have just two.
Enough about divisions. Let's talk about
individual teams. And let's start with the league's biggest losers: Special
Team, Schwein Fire, and The Savants. What a trio of futility. Special Team
is the leader of this pack, as they have now found a way to lose six games
in a row. Six losses for the entire season can be considered a bad year, but six
losses in a row has to be considered a bad franchise. And what was with
their recent trade with Bush-Whacked? They gave away Bulger, Ahman, Harrison,
& Stallworth in exchange for Leinart, Travis Henry, Darrell Jackson,
and Toomer. I can see Harrison and Jackson might be similar in value, but
that's where the parity ends. Harrison is a franchise quality receiver
in an amazing offensive system with the Colts. After dealing him away,
who is Special Team planning to franchise next year? Please don't tell
me it's Mister 1.4 yards per carry James. Call me old school, but I believe
if a losing team is going to make a fire sale where they give away a lot
more talent than they receive, then at the very least they should receive
a franchise player in the deal and not give one away to the other party.
Next. Schwein Fire. Tough loss this week. Their
starting QB, Matt Hasselbeck, hurts his knee in the first half and doesn't
return. They only lost by 12 fantasy points, and Hasselbeck was a decent bet to make up
that difference. But what really killed them this week was their lack of
transactional moves. With so many players on their roster either injured,
on a bye, or declared inactive early in the week (Ron Dayne) - Schwein
Fire really had no option but to pick up a few players who were going to
be active on Sunday. They chose not to.
And The Savants... haven't we spent enough time
laughing at them already this year? Well of course we have. But it's
better this time around because after they won two games in a row during
Week Five and Week Six, they thought they were back in the race. But as
we all know, the only race they have a chance of winning is the race for
next year's #1 draft pick. They're my clear favorite to win, too.
Here are the results for Week Seven, accompanied
by my sincere feelings:
Gold Grill (4-3)
defeated Special Team (1-6),
92-81. Every
time it comes down to a Monday game Special Team loses. Every time. No
questions. They embody the spirit of the Monday Night Chisel and for that
we respect them. Gold Grill is amazingly now tied for 2nd place in the
Lip Conference.
Bush-Whacked (5-2)
defeated The Fat Bus
(4-3), 95-85.
The Bus has now lost three in a row. Maybe they aren't that special of
a team afterall. Bush-Whacked looks like they will be a contender in the
playoffs now that they picked up Bulger and Harrison.
The Steins (4-3)
defeated Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (3-4),
103-68. The Steins
bounced back from last week's 72 point ass kicking by Old Joe (169-97)
and did some tail kicking of their own. Take that Jo-Boo. They truly still
are the Murph Killers.
Old Joe (6-1) defeated
Schwein Fire (2-5),
85-73. Old Joe
got a gift this week. Schwein Fire looks to be in big trouble. They need
to make a move (or two) and see if they can't kickstart this struggling
franchise.
P.O.B.'s Pounders (4-3)
defeated The Savants (2-5),
148-83. That's
a good old fashioned Savant butt-kicking. The Pounders, after starting
the year 1-3, have now reeled off three straight victories. They appear
to be a playoff team afterall. The question is, can they defend their championship?
We're over halfway through with the regular season
with only six more weeks before the playoffs. Taunt you next week.
