2006 Week 2 Report
|
Like most years in the league, after two weeks
of play we have three teams with perfect 2-0 records. Another three teams
are winless at 0-2 and the other four squads are sitting at 1-1. Although
there is a lot of football left to be played, the next few weeks are critical
for some franchises who don't want to fall too far in the standings. In
particular, The Savants and Gold Grill really need to buckle down and get
a victory. As for the other winless team, Schwein Fire, I think they may
already be circling the drain. They do not have the same luxury of playing
in the weaker conference, so wins should be harder to come by in the coming
weeks. Of note, The Fat Bus has started off the 2006 season with a perfect
2-0 record. They haven't done that since 2003, the year of their best overall
finish (they took 3rd place). It looks like they were able to reload a
bit after having back-to-back #1 draft picks. We'll have to wait and see
if they can keep the streak going in Week Three.
Here are the results for Week Two:
The Fat Bus (2-0)
defeated Schwein Fire (0-2),
116-88. The Bus
was rolling! They countered their opponent move for move this week. When
Schwein Fire decided to start a crappy rookie receiver this week, WR Marques
Colston, the Bus had the answer. They would start crappy rookie receiver
Jerricho Cotchery. So when Colston scored a 35 yard touchdown, it was no
sweat for the Bus. Because Cotchery had a 71 yard score of his own. They
even managed to sneak in tight end Tod heap into their lineup. His 17 yards
receiving weren't much, but the one yard TD he scored was surely an emotional
lift for this team which has finished dead last in the Taunt FFL two
seasons in a row.
Bush-Whacked (2-0)
defeated Special Team (1-1),
96-85. Nobody
is quite sure how, but Bush-Whacked is one of three teams still undefeated.
Despite injuries, holdouts, trades, and other drama - Bush-Whacked has managed
to score enough points in back-to-back weeks to collect two wins. This
week, it was ancient receiver Amani Toomer who managed to haul in
two long scores and post a remarkable 26 fantasy points. Special Team was
hoping RB Rudi Johnson's big day would be enough to carry them, but
they really needed QB Marc Bulger to do more against the 49ers.
Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (1-1)
defeated P.O.B.'s Pounders (1-1),
90-86. Jo-Boo
wins ugly. Period. They needed a nightmare defensive battle on Monday night
to hold the Pounders, and their receiver Hines Ward, to a low score. And
that is what they got. The Backers look better this year compared to recent
years, but they are in serious need of an upgrade at quarterback. As for
the Pounders, they could have won this game many different ways. RB Chester
Taylor got tackled at the goal line in OT on Sunday as did the Atlanta
defense twice on interceptions. So close, P.O.B.
The Steins (1-1)
defeated The Savants (0-2),
102-87. The Steins
needed this one. After a heartbreak one point loss last week, coming on
the heels of a turbulent draft night, this win meant a lot. They still
have a few things to figure out (like why in the hell did they take Cadillac
so early?) but we like their chances to make the playoffs. We do not, however,
like The Savants' chances of qualifying for the postseason. They are very
weak at receiver, and losing their top draft pick, WR Terrell Owens, to
injury isn't going to help. The preseason rankings were once again right
on the money.
Old Joe (2-0) defeated
Gold Grill (0-2),
117-103. Old
Joe is off to the races. They have posted the high score in the league
two weeks in a row in two easy victories. Gold Grill must be a little salty
right now. They are number four in overall scoring, yet are still winless.
Hopefully for them, their "defense" will start coming to play.
Next week they get to face The Savants, so things may be turning around
shortly for this franchise.
That's it for now. I will be back to taunt you
all later...
