2006 Week 13 Report

Two points! In a crazy end to our regular season, the last playoff spot was determined by a tiebreaker. Based on overall points scored over the entire regular season, The Steins advanced to the playoff round by having a mere two more fantasy points in 2006 than Schwein Fire. Sorry about that, Schwein Fire, but maybe this will give you a little incentive to make a few more transactions during the year and to monitor players who have been declared inactive early on Sunday morning.

Now that the regular season is over it is time for the most exciting part of our league: the playoffs! P.O.B.'s Pounders plan to defend their 2005 championship, while the other five teams all have their eye on the top prize. Of this year's six playoff particpants, five of them have already won at least one Super Bowl ring. Only The Fat Bus has naked fingers.

For the regular season, The Lip Conference once again dominated the Hair Conference in both points scored and the interleague series - which they won 17-8. The Lips also qualified 4 playoff teams while the Hairs managed to get just 2 teams into the dance. Of the six teams still alive, five of them have already earned a cash prize in 2006. None of the lottery teams earned a cash prize this season.

Before we take a look at next week's playoff games, here are the final results for Week Thirteen:

Bush-Whacked (9-4) defeated The Steins (7-6), 107-84.
Schwein Fire (7-6) defeated Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (3-10), 72-59.
P.O.B.'s Pounders (7-6) defeated Special Team (2-11), 98-62.
Old Joe (9-4) defeated The Savants (4-9), 89-78.
Gold Grill (9-4) defeated The Fat Bus (8-5), 85-78.

Here's a recap of where everyone finished the 2006 regular season:

Draft Picks in 2007
Gold Grill - Lip Conference champion ($50), best overall record ($75) and 3rd most overall points ($50). By virtue of a three way tiebreaker, they are the #1 seed in the playoffs and get a first round bye.

Bush-Whacked - Hair Conference champion ($50) and 3rd best overall record ($25). As the #2 seed, they will also get a bye during the first round.

Old Joe - Lip Conference runner-up ($25) and 2nd best overall record ($50). Despite sccring the most overall points ($200) this year, Old Joe loses the tiebreaker to Gold Grill for both the best overall record and the Lip Conference championship. They are the #3 playoff seed.

The Fat Bus - They are the #4 seed but did not win a regular season cash prize.

The Steins - They are the #5 seed and scored the 4th most overall points ($25)

P.O.B.'s Pounders - Hair Conference runner-up ($25) and 2nd most overall points ($115). They are the #6 seed.
Special Team - Draft pick #1 next year. This is their third 10th place finish since the league went to the current format in 1997.

Jo-Boo's Browns Backers - Draft pick #2 next year. Lou Holtz better make good use of this lottery pick.

The Savants - Draft pick #3 next year, their second straight 8th place finish. That's two years in a row they finished better than I predicted! Over the last six years in the league, this franchise has missed the playoffs every season but one.

Schwein Fire - Draft pick #4 next year, they failed to make the playoffs despite being the fifth highest scoring team and tying for the fifth best overall record. The tiebreaker is sending them to the lottery, by just two total fantasy points!

O.K., here is the playoff bracket:

Commissioner's Note: A special playoff prediction column from three-time Super Bowl champion Bush-Whacked will be released later in the week.

My 2006 playoff predictions are coming soon... Stay Tuned!

That's it for the regular season. As always, the rosters of the teams that did not make the playoffs are now frozen until next year's draft. Good luck to those teams that are still alive.
