2005 Week 8 Report

Just a reminder that this will be the last week to make trades before the Week Nine trading deadline. I would suspect a firesale or two will be completed before sunrise on Sunday, but we will have to wait and see what the league's cellar dwellers decide to do. Five more regular season weeks remain. It's looking like it will be a close race for the last few playoff spots.

Here are the results for Week Eight:

Receiver U. (7-1) defeated P.O.B.'s Pounders (6-2), 103-56. The Pounders didn't even show up this week. After starting the year a perfect 6-0, they have now dropped two straight interleague games. For the season, the Hairs and Lips are tied at 8 wins each in cross-divisional matchups. Receiver U. now has a stranglehold on the Hair Conference title and only a complete meltdown would keep them from getting a first round playoff bye.

The Running Monks (2-6) defeated Orange Julius (4-4), 99-79. The Monks benched their best player, RB Steven Jackson, but still had a solid week. A couple of their stiff receivers lit it up on Sunday. Injuries are making it hard on Julius to field a competitive roster each week. They better get healthy, or they could find themselves on the wrong side of the bubble.

Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (5-3) defeated E-Z Money (2-6), 93-91. All I can say is Wow! The worst team in the league, the Backers, have now won four games in a row. They are two games above .500 and they look like a solid bet to make the postseason. Meanwhile, one of the better scoring teams in the league, E-Z Money, has now lost five in a row, including another narrow defeat this week. The last three weeks alone, E-Z Money has lost their three games by a combined total of 6 points. They are getting chiseled every week! This Monday they had a chance to win, but Jo-Boo's Pittsburgh defense scored just enough turnovers to get the needed three points and seal the win. With the defeat this week, coupled with with the loss of franchise QB Daunte Culpepper for the season, it looks like E-Z Money is circling the drain.

Cinnamon Roll Nation (3-5) defeated Who-Dey Delight (6-2), 82-79. Zzzzzz.... Traditionally, this matchup is usually a sleeper and this week was no exception. The Nation needed the win desperately while Who-Dey still shares the Lip Conference lead with the Pounders.

The Steins (4-4) defeated The Fat Bus (1-7), 114-105. The Bus exploded for 105 points this week, yet they lose again. That's four losses in a row and seven in the first eight weeks. I wonder who they will select with the #1 pick in next year's draft. The Steins have climbed back to .500 on the year, but their playoff posiiton is still in jeapordy.
