WEEK THIRTEEN REPORT

It's playoff time! The regular season has been completed and it's time to see who will take home the coveted Super Bowl ring in 2002. Although the Hair Conference led the Lip Conference in points scored, the interleague results ended up tied with 12 wins for both conferences and one tie. Each division managed to qualify three teams for the playoffs. Of the six teams still alive, four of them have earned a cash prize as did Dawson's Crizzy who finished with the 2nd most overall points. Unfortunately for them, the Crizzy finished the year in the 7th place overall. By virtue of a surprise Week 13 victory by The Savants, our 10th place finisher was Corey Dillon The Ball Carrier. The Ball Carrier will have the #1 overall pick in next year's draft.

Before we take a look at next week's playoff games, here are the final results for Week Thirteen:

The Savants (4-9) defeated The Green Party (7-5-1), 117-89
TD Taunters (8-5) defeated Boston Stranglers (7-6), 95-86
Dawson's Crizzzy (6-7) defeated Gimme The Damn Ball! (4-9), 109-93
Pooh Bott Helmets (9-4) defeated Bullseye (7-6) , 116-77
Karen's Komets (8-4-1) defeated Corey Dillon The Ball Carrier (4-9), 90-78

Here's a recap of where everyone finished the 2002 regular season:

Draft Picks in 2003
Pooh Bott Helmets - Lip Conference champion, best overall record, and 4th most overall points. They are the #1 seed in the playoffs as they coasted through most of the regular season. Their winnings this year has totaled $150, which is three times their previous earnings over their first five seasons.

TD Taunters - Hair Conference champion with an impressive 7 game winning streak to end the regular eason. They also finished with the most overall points and the 3rd best overall record. Cash winnings this year has totaled $275, moving them up to #5 on the all-time money list. As the #2 seed, they will get a bye during the first round.

Karen's Komets - Lip Conference runner-up and 2nd best overall record. They are the #3 seed and have added $75 in winnings to their career earnings total.

The Green Party - Hair Conference runner-up, they are the #4 seed. They also had the 3rd most overall points ($50).

Bullseye - They are the #5 seed. Although they lead the league in career earnings, they have not won a cash prize yet in 2002.

Boston Stranglers - They are the #6 seed. This is their sixth straight playoff appearance as they are the only team in the league to make the playoffs in every year.
Corey Dillon The Ball Carrier - Draft pick #1 next year, and their second 10th place finish in the last four years. Their 8 game losing streak midway through the season was embarrassing.

The Savants - Draft pick #2 next year, and to nobody's surprise they finished with a league low 1,104 overall points scored.

Gimme The Damn Ball! - Draft pick #3 next year, with plenty of time to repair a broken down Fat Bus. This is only their 2nd time that they have failed to make the playoffs.

Dawson's Crizzzy - Draft pick #4 next year, they failed to have a winning record this year despite being the 2nd highest scoring team. They suffered a similar fate in 1997. This year's missed opportunity comes courtesy of Bullseye's "immaculate reception" during Week Nine.

O.K., here is the playoff bracket:

Alright, now the real season begins! Here is a preview of the first round games:

(#4) The Green Party vs. (#5) Bullseye
This is a rematch of the bitter Round Two playoff matchup from last year. In that game, The Green Party came away with a 95-71 win. This year they are hurting at quarterback, and possibly one of their top RBs is out. But the Party still has Priest Holmes and that guy is always a threat to go nuts. Bullseye has been inconsistent this year. It's tough to predict which weeks their stiff receivers will produce or when they'll bust out the Sharpie. Based on the matchups, I see a close but low scoring Round One game. The winner might just come down to kickers and defenses. My prediction: Bullseye by 2.

(#3) Karen's Komets vs. (#6) Boston Stranglers
These two teams are not that good. But they're not that bad either. In their only matchup this year, the Komets came away with an 85-75 Week 12 win. Two weeks later and they are facing each other for the right to advance to Round Two. The matchups for the week do not look to overly favor one team more than the other, although a couple of games stand out. On paper I'd say this one is even. But based on experience, I am forced to give the Stranglers the advantage. My prediction: Boston Stranglers by 10.

That's it for the regular season, so the rosters of teams that did not make the playoffs are now frozen until next year's draft. Good luck to those teams that are still alive!
