WEEK FOUR REPORT

With unanimous approval from the league's owners, the FFL will be donating $229 (the transaction fees collected for the 1999 and 2000 seasons) to the NYPD & FDNY Widows and Children's Fund. It's a small gesture, but it is one everyone should be proud to have made.

After the Week Three games, Bullseye managed to acquire WR Terrell Owens from Marshall's Maulers in exchange for WR Tony Gonzalez and RB Priest Holmes. (I am sure all across the country, fantasy squads were wheelin' and dealin' to dump Holmes after his {seemingly} annual one-game super-performance.) This trade didn't cost the Maulers a Week Four victory because they would have lost with or without Owens this week, but it did cost Jo-Boo's Browns Backers in their game. The Browns Backers lost to Bullseye as a result of the deal, which ironcially could be considered sweet justice to the rest of the league... since they were squad that handed over RB Edgerrin James in the league's worst trade of the 2000 season.

I wonder who is lining up to give Bullseye a franchise player next year?

Other than that - there is no big news for the week. Four teams now have 3-1 records, two teams are 2-2, and the remaining four are 1-3. As expected after only four weeks, it's still wide open.

Feature game of the week
PTP: Peyton's Trailerpark Posse! (3-1) defeated The Fruit Baskets (1-3), 127-104. The Baskets always seem to be getting the short end of the stick. This week, they were the second highest scoring team, but still lost their game. For the year, they lead the league in points scored against them with 407 (an average of almost 102 points per game). No wonder they have a 1-3 record. Hopefully for them, the schedule will be more favorable the rest of the way. As for Peyton's crew, they are en fuego. Even their defense is posting huge numbers these days. The rest of the league better hope they cool off... and soon!

Here are the rest of the results for Week Four:

Bullseye (2-2) defeated Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (1-3), 89-81. As stated above, this game took a new turn with Bullseye's acquisition of Owens. With him, they are now a top team (before I had them pegged at 7th or 8th overall). This week, they moved up to number 3 in the power rankings. The Browns Backers are picking up where they left off last season. They are the lowest scoring team in their conference (and the entire league) and they are tied for worst overall record. How many #1 draft picks does a team need before they can officially emerge from "rebuilding" status?

NGL© (3-1) defeated Eighty-Eight, Late! (1-3), 102-72. Finally, Randy Moss found the endzone. But this week's victory for NGL© was a balanced effort. Even their kicker, who made it on the all-time records list for this week's performance, chipped in. On the other side of ball, Eighty-Eight, Late! is struggling to find any kind of consistency. With virtually no running game at all, their dependence on solid quarterback & wide receiver play is backfiring a bit. They need to pick it up quick or they might dig themselves a hole too deep to crawl out of.

The Savants (3-1) defeated Marshall's Maulers (1-3), 103-90. Gone is WR Joe Horn. WR Terrell Owens. RB Jamal Anderson. What started out as such a promising season for Marshall's Maulers is turning into disaster. RB Marshall Faulk may be the best fantasy player in the game. But as we learned from our beloved Rueff in seasons past, one star running back won't take you to the promised land! One question that has been floating around the league this weekend is why did the Maulers trade away Owens for Gonzalez /Holmes if they weren't planning to start Holmes? Obviously, Owens is better than Gonzalez at the wide receiver position, so value must be found with acquiring Holmes. But if they aren't going to play the guy (and not many blame them for sitting him on the bench!) then why pull the trigger in the first place... This week, The Savants finally showed us that they can score more than 70 points in a given week. Hooray for them! With a 3-1 record, they still aren't going to make the playoffs.

Corey Dillon The Ball Carrier (3-1) defeated Dippity-Doo (2-2), 71-64. Two straight weeks with 71 points, two consecutive victories for Corey Dillon, who as we all know, is the ball carrier for the Bengals (but we are glad Rosebud reminded us in the naming of his team). As for Dippity-Doo, they flat out dippity-don't know how to manage their ball club. This week they benched WR Peerless Price who had a career effort. They started tight end Freddie Jones in his place. Also, they opted to play RB Charlie Garner (who splits time in Oakland and is not the goal line back) over RB Jerome Bettis. Bettis, in case you didn't know, has had his best games in recent history against the Cincinnati Bengals. This stat must have been left off of the dippity-scouting report.

Have a good week all... and see you here next Monday.
