WEEK FOURTEEN REPORT
(Playoffs Round One)
Congratulations to Bullseye and Dirty Sanchez
for winning their opening round playoff games and advancing to the second
round. And we can say "adios" to Santana's No Randy! TNT©and
The Funhouse Slaps as they are the next two teams to start their vacation
early.
Bullseye's 120-105
victory over Santana's No Randy! TNT©
was indeed sweet, as they avenged the one-point playoff loss
in 1998 to their arch rival. This year's contest was frighteningly similar
to the '98 contest, as Bullseye again trailed by exactly 4 points heading
into the Monday night game. This time, however, Bullseye had Tony Gonzales
- and not J.J. Stokes - as their last starting receiver. And Gonzales came
through with 19 huge points to give Bullseye their second ever playoff
victory, and first meaningful one at that.
In the other contest, Dirty
Sanchez escaped with a 75-65 victory over
The Funhouse Slaps.
As many predicted, the game was very low scoring. The Slaps, who are now
0-2 lifetime in the playoffs, set a new playoff scoring low. Dirty Sanchez
was fortunate not to see WR Troy Brown on their opponent's starting
lineup, because if started, he may have given them the MNC!
O.K., here is the updated playoff bracket:
Playoff Schedule
Here is a preview of the Second Round games:
Dirty Sanchez
(#3 seed) vs. The Savants
(#2 seed)
After QB Kurt Warner's dismal performance
during Week 14, The Savants sure enjoyed having their First Round bye.
The question is, will he bounce back and perform as he has during most
of the last two years? With RB Fred Taylor and WRs Joe Horn, Tim Brown,
and Ed Mcaffrey, The Savants could fare well even if Warner doesn't have
a great day. On the other side, Dirty Sanchez really needs big days from
RB Stephen Davis (playing with a cast on his arm) and QB Rich
Gannon. I must give the nod to The Savants in this game. They definitely
have the better wide receivers, and if their QB has a decent day, they
should advance to the Super Bowl. Dirty Sanchez has been struggling the
last 4 weeks, and it's difficult to predict that they'll do any better
in this game.
Bullseye (#4
seed) vs. Akili'sAll-Stars
(#1 seed)
This is a very difficult matchup to forecast.
Both teams have the potential to post over 120 points in any given week,
but this week's matchups aren't incredibly great for either squad. For
the All-Stars, RB Corey Dillon faces a very tough Tennessee run defense
but does have WR Isaac Bruce and RB Robert Smith in the Minnesota
vs. St. Louis shootout. QB Daunte Culpepper is also playing in that
game for Bullseye and their star player, RB Edgerrin James, has a
chance to redeem himself on Monday night. I smell another Monday night
meltdown for Bullseye.
