WEEK 13 REPORT
What a great way to end the regular season! Week
13 featured seven new '98 records, seven teams scoring over 100 points,
and a dramatic finish for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th overall points prizes.
Add to that the fact that the last two playoff positions were clinched,
I'd say Week 13 was as good as a finishing week could be.
With QB Steve Young having a 31 point
Monday night performance, PPP: Gorilla Patch Junkies snuck into the
playoffs with a 6-6-1 record. By the same token, Scott's
"All they Know How To Do Is Score" Savants received the
ultimate Monday Night Chisel, as they watched their team's playoff hopes
slip away on the last game of the regular season. Also in that game, RB Garrison
Hearst's long TD run in the final minutes catapulted The Fat Bus to the
2nd most overall points prize. Before that run, they were only in 4th.
Here are how this week's games turned out:
The Murph Killers
(10-3) defeated P.O.
Steve (9-4) by the score of 137-118.
P.O. Steve set a record for most points scored in a losing effort while
the Murph Killers set the highest QB points total in a week with 51
from Randall Cunningham. Both teams have a bye during Week 14, the first
round of the playoffs.
Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (8-4-1) defeated
Scott's "All they Know
How To Do Is Score" Savants (5-7-1)
by the score of 126-111.
As their team name suggests, all the Savants know how to do is score. They
sure as hell do not know how to win, as they lost 7 of their final 9 games.
Ouch! By failing to make the playoffs, the Savants earn the dubious distinction
of being the only other team (besides Rais'n the Rueff) to have never made
the postseason since we moved to a head-to-head format. The Browns Backers
claimed the 3rd most overall points prize and will play 4th and Joey, NGL©
next week in the first round of the playoffs.
PPP: Gorilla Patch Junkies (6-6-1)
defeated Up Your Butt Jo-Boo (3-10) by
the score of 109-84.
Their win, coupled with the Savants' loss, earned the Junkies their first
playoff appearance. They will play The Fat Bus next week in the first round
of the playoffs. Up Your Butt finished dead last this year in overall points
and overall record, and will have the first pick in the 1999 draft. You
can stick that Up Your Butt, Jo-Boo!
The Fat Bus (8-4-1)
defeated T.T.M.F. Little Johnny (4-9)
by the score of 134-55.
This was the biggest rout of the year! The Fat Bus claimed the 2nd most
overall points prize and the #3 seed overall in the playoffs. They will
play PPP: Gorilla Patch Junkies next week in the first round of the playoffs.
The Johnnies followed up their 1997 Super Bowl Champion season with a disappointing
8th place finish this year. Luckily for them, they will be able to draft
top rookie prospects RB Michael Wiley and WR David Boston next
year. These Buckeyes will surely improve their team!
4th and Joey, NGL© (7-6) defeated
Rais'n the Rueff (3-10)
by the score of 139-92.
4th and Joey clinched a playoff berth with the victory and set a record
for most points scored in a week. They will play Jo-Boo's Browns Backers
next week in the first round of the playoffs.
Rais'n the Rueff has finished below .500 every year since we moved to a
head-to-head format. Their overall record during that time period is 9-17!
Here is the playoff schedule that begins Week
14:
Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (8-4-1) vs. 4th
and Joey, NGL© (7-6)
This is a great matchup between two high scoring
teams. The injury to Vikings' RB Robert Smith gives 4th and Joey an
extra weapon with their substitute RB Leroy Hoard. The Browns Backers
will be hurting at wide receiver next week, so I have to give the edge
to 4th and Joey. The winner of this game will play the Murph Killers in
Week 15.
The Fat Bus (8-4-1) vs. PPP: Gorilla Patch
Junkies (6-6-1)
The Bus has been rolling lately, and is definitely
one of the top two consistent scoring teams in the league. Their running
back tandem of Garrison Hearst and Jamaal Anderson is slightly better than
the Junkies' duo of Eddie George and Corey Dillon. The Junkies do have
the QB edge, however. That being said, I am predicting a first round upset,
with the Junkies advancing to play P.O. Steve in Week 15.
To all of you teams failing to make playoffs,
I bid you well in the off-season. I implore all of you to do a better job
preparing for next year's draft, with the exception of O'Brien. I think
the extra 100 hours you spent studying the player pool for this year muddied
your otherwise excellent fanasty brain.
I'll see the rest of you in the playoffs.
