WEEK TEN REPORT

Week 10 was a very low scoring week in our league as only one team, T.T.M.F. Little Johnny, broke the 100 point barrier. Another squad, 4th and Joey, NGL©, set the '98 season record for lowest points in a week with only 38. Despite the low scoring, this week's games were the most interesting to watch unfold yet - since most teams are still fighting for playoff positions. Next week should be even more interesting since after Week 10 only one team has clinched a playoff berth (P.O. Steve) and only one team has been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs (Rais'n the Rueff). I originally thought the two teams with 3-7 records had no postseason chance, but upon further inspection it appears that they indeed do! Also, the Murph Killers, who lead the Lip Conference with a 7-3 record, still could be eliminated from the playoffs. This was all made possible by the two ties we have had this season. Here is a recap of this week's games, with some additional analysis from your commissioner:

P.O. Steve (8-2) defeated The Fat Bus (6-3-1) by the score of 75-72. RB Jerome Bettis, a.k.a. The Bus, scored just enough points on Monday night to stop The Fat Bus. The win, one of several close victories decided on Monday Night, clinches a playoff berth for P.O. Steve. It's hard to believe that the team with the 3rd lowest overall points in the league has won 8 out of ten games, including their last five in a row. The loss pushes the Fat Bus back to 2nd place in the Lip Conference, just one-half game behind the Murph Killers. They most likely need to win just one of their remaining three games to lock up a playoff spot.

Scott's "All They Know How To Do Is Score" Savants (4-5-1) defeated Up Your Butt Jo-Boo (3-7) by the score of 92-56. The loss helps the Savants close in on a Wild Card playoff berth, while Up Your Butt's loss virtually knocks them out of postseason contention. However, with only three weeks left in the regular season, Up Your Butt could still sneak into the playoff picture by winning their remaining three games and getting some help from other teams.

PPP: Gorilla Patch Junkies (5-4-1) defeated Jo-Boo's Browns Backers (5-4-1) by the score of 82-66. The win gives the Junkies a tie for 2nd place in the Hair Conference with the Browns Backers. And, since the Junkies have swept the two games they have played against the Browns Backers, they would have the tiebreaker if these two teams ended the regular season with identical records.

T.T.M.F. Little Johnny (3-7) defeated Rais'n the Rueff (2-8) by the score of 103-88. The Johnnies made some great roster changes this week to earn their first victory in their last five games. RB Skip Hicks and QB Vinnie Testaverde had great games - in comparison to the other roster players the Johnnies had available. But the Johnnies should not get too excited, as it would take a miracle for them to make the playoffs.

The Murph Killers (7-3) defeated 4th and Joey, NGL© (5-5) by the score of 87-38. Both teams lost their starting QBs early in their games Sunday, but only the Killers had their remaining players pick up the slack. The win gives the Killers the Lip Conference lead and a virtual playoff berth lock, while 4th and Joey set the league record for low scoring. They still look good for making the postseason, but with their scoring volatility - who knows.

Taunt you later,
